Is Talk Radio Journalism

For this week we were asked to view a few segments of certain radio talk shows from across the nation and decide if talk radio is a form of journalism.
The answer to the question is a simple no. Talk Radio in nearly all aspects is not a form of journalism. Talk radio does no reporting, no investigation, it is simply there to stimulate conversation. Yes people make the argument that you can learn from talk radio and this is true but talk radio does not supply you with news or do they break stories. Talk radio hosts simply sit back, look at what is going on in the news and talk about it. By doing this they give opinions and take callers opinions but in the most literal sense talk radio is not journalism. It is interesting, and fun, and can have benefits, but when the WEEI Whiner Line or Michael Savage's radio show are considered Journalism then America has a real problem.
