The portrayal of people who call in to talk radio

In Talk Radio by Eric Bogosian there is a dumbed down sense of people who call into the radio station and the show "Night Talk" with Barry Champlain.

Bogosian really makes an effort to show how stupid some of the callers are that call in. He really makes them sound stupid and right at the end when Barry goes on a rant telling all the callers they are "useless" and verbally abuses them all and tells them to stop calling and then the callers just keep calling talking about the same things over and over, it just makes it seem as if Bogosian really thinks people who call into talk radio are some of the dumbest people who walk the earth.
In my own experience with talk radio, I have never heard anything like in the play. I mostly listen to talk radio about sports like WEEI but sometimes I listen to NPR or other shows but people never come off this dumb. I do get annoyed and see what Bogosian  is trying to portray. When you listen to WEEI sometimes the callers will just keep calling with the same opinion or make the same points as a previous caller and that is annoying, but for the most part when talk radio like WEEI keep the conversation stimulated and the topic that they are talking about how many different aspects to it. Then I feel that the talk radio callers who I have listened to have nothing to do with the callers Bogosian portrays in "Talk Radio."
