As you read through the John Ziegler article and you get to the point where he in on the radio and tells the whole world or anyone who is listening that America is "better" than the Arab world you have to stop what your doing and go "what did he just say".
The article talks about him having to be stimulating on the radio and this holds true. Ziegler has to make these comments to keep his radio show going. They talked earlier on in the piece that his show was a gamble for him and the radio station, there were no guarantees that his show was going to be successful. So on night two of his show and with the beheading video going viral all around the world, Ziegler said this in hopes of creating a large conversation that will produce ratings for the station. He was hopeful that this bold comment would cause people to call into his show and bring new listeners onto the show. The piece talked about how it was Zieglers focus to keep listeners tuned into the show, and comments like these keep people listening. These comments keep people listening and also keep them talking. When Ziegler makes this comment for most people they have to stay tuned in, to see how other people are going to react to what he just said. Ziegler uses his bold statements to keep listeners attentive and active in his show so he can turn in the ratings at KFI.
